Watford Colosseum’s office space, theatre, restaurant and cafe is due to receive a multi-million pound makeover.
The renovation project will begin in August and cost £5 million pound to complete, said Watford Borough council.
Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “I want to reassure residents that this is affordable – we have money in the budget dedicated for improvement of our assets”.
She continued: “This is the green light for the exciting refurbishment plans, which will see the Colosseum restored to its former glory, providing first class entertainment for everyone”.
Construction work will be taken on by Kier London who signed the contract to renovate the building earlier this week. Operations director at the firm Norman Elliot said: “I am confident that together we can deliver a project that when complete will be a landmark entertainment venue in the area and something that we and the people of Watford will be really proud of”.
The entertainment venue and office space will be fitted with new seating and a glass fronted extension. The refurbishment project is due to be completed by mid-2011.
