The long-awaited real estate building located in Cannon Place, London is now ready for use.
The London office of international real estate company Hines is celebrating the completion of its new landmark development in Cannon Place.
The Hines building project is a joint development with Network Rail and London Underground, and the construction holds 400,000 square feet of prime office space in the capital, together with 10,000 square feet of retail facilities. The commercial property also incorporates the re-development of Cannon Street station, which is situated below the office building.
The development partnership has been widely praised by the architecture industry, due to its innovative glass and steel design. Hines adopted complex techniques which have been used in the construction of the world’s major suspension bridges, to give the appearance of the building ‘floating’ above the underground station.
When complete and fully occupied the building will house 4,000 people and will include 50,000 square feet of office space on each floor.
Speaking at a gala launch event for the building, the Lord Mayor of London, The Right Honourable Alderman Michael Bear officially opened the building for business.
The Lord Mayor said: “The completion of this remarkable development represents a significant milestone in the confidence I believe we are seeing return to the city. At a time when the supply of high quality office space is limited, Cannon Place represents a building completed at the right time, in the right place. It is not only one of the largest schemes to complete in the city this year; it is aesthetically stunning and is a tremendous addition to the city’s streetscape.
“Buildings such as Cannon Place are crucial for the future prosperity of the city, providing the environments to attract global corporate occupiers to help London maintain its position as the world’s greatest financial centre,” he added.
