The 2012 Olympic Games in London may lead to the creation of office and stadium space in Birmingham.
A 5000-seater stadium, complete with office space for professionals who work in the sport industry, is currently waiting for approval from the council.
A statement made by planners to the local councils read: “It is without question that the facility is a major asset to Birmingham and to the athletic community in general”.
It continued: “The provision of the new stand will form an integral part of ongoing improvements to the stadium, including an upgraded running track and repositioning of the jump areas, which the city council is committed to as part of its hosting of the USA athletics team in 2010 prior to the Olympic Games”.
Situated in Perry Park the original stadium was opened in 1976 and was home to athletic events. The area has been picked by the USA and Jamaican track and field teams as their host city for the games.
