London office design proposal submitted by the Blackstone Group and British Land.

British Land and the Blackstone Group have submitted a detailed planning application for the 5 Broadgate Building in London.

The group plan to create world class offices to let in London that will be able to accommodate well over 5000 employees of the financial service provider UBS. The design has been created by Ken Shuttleworth from Make and will feature cutting edge design whilst still remaining efficient for the everyday office use of the financial service company.

“We are thrilled to be working with British Land and Blackstone in realising UBS’ vision of a flexible, highly insulated and energy efficient building at Broadgate.  Our bold design was conceived from the idea of a perfectly cast ‘engine of finance’, and responds to the strength and spirit of Broadgate. We believe it sets a new standard for the future generation of truly adaptable buildings,” commented Shuttleworth.

There is 700,000 square feet available for renovation into offices to let in London and will allow UBS to consolidate all of their smaller London offices into one location.

The development is the latest high profile project to add to British Land’s Broadgate office portfolio and marks an improvement in offices to let in London on the whole.

“It is vital that the City is able to meet the current and future needs of key occupiers for attractive, flexible and sustainable floor-space, as financial services will be a major driver in the recovery of the UK economy from recession,” commented British Land Chief Executive, Chris Grigg.

British Land are aiming to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ once the building has been renovated, one of the measures they are taking to reach this goal is adding features that encourage motorcycle and bicycle use to cut down on emissions.
