WR Berkley has announced plans to build a 35-floor commercial skyscraper in Central London, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox to resemble a scalpel.
The £500m project will see 25% of the finished project become office space for WR Berkley staff, while the remaining floors will be open for letting elsewhere.
“Today everybody looks at these things purely as an economic transaction,” CEO William Berkley told the Financial Times.
“But we think a building is an important statement about who you are and what you are doing in the world. This is a pretty permanent statement about us and our intentions.”
The building is expected to take 5 years to construct, and will be ready for occupation in 2017.
