Yammer opens London office space.
Social media specialists acquire East London offices.
Yammer has announced that it is to open offices at East London’s Silicon Roundabout. The company, which is behind the social networking platform of the same name, will be opening new London offices this year. Yammer is currently based in San Francisco and they are the latest in a long string of companies to lease office space within London’s ‘Tech City’ area.
Last year David Cameron revealed plans to turn East London into a major tech hub that would rival that of San Francisco’s ‘Silicon Valley’. Thus far the project has been successful with many new media and technology companies moving into office space in and around the area. Some of the biggest firms leasing office space in East London include Last.fm, Songkick and TweetDeck.
“Yammer’s decision to grow their business in London and at the centre of Tech City illustrates our increasingly pivotal role in the global digital economy. International firms are investing here because it is simply the best place in the world to do business and, with the international focus ahead of next year’s 2012 Games, we will be pushing hard to lure more and more of the biggest and best business to our great city,” commented London mayor Boris Johnson.
Yammer follows a similar format to rival social networking platform Twitter. However, Yammer is centered around more professional business prospects rather than being simply a micro-blogging site that covers any subject matter. The company is expecting to double its staff by the end of this year. The new London office will be used as a central sales and client service hub specifically for the EMEA regions.
