The One New Change building will provide central London office space
The ‘Stealth Bomber’ building will provide new office space in Central London.
A new shopping centre is opening in Central London which will feature high quality office space.
One New Change or the ‘Stealth Bomber’ was developed at a cost of £540 million and is located behind St Paul’s Cathedral. The building covers 560,000 square feet and 330,000 square feet will be designated as office space above the retail outlets. It will span eight floors with the top four being used as commercial office space.
The building was developed by Land Securities and was designed by architect Jean Nouvel. The controversial building has been criticised by some for its modern architecture and close proximity to St Paul’s Cathedral. Critics of the building include Prince Charles who wrote to the development companies urging them to use a different design.
The building is being targeted at the 350,00 workers in the city and hopes to attract shoppers that usually go to the West End retail outlets. The office space is expected to attract companies and entrepreneurs mainly from the financial sector.
Companies that are already interested include the likes of Banana Republic, Karen Millen and Hugo Boss. The building is said to mark a change in the district representing progression to more modern attitudes. According to Peter Rees, the planning officer for the City of London the district is “not just a place to work any longer, the City has become a much more rounded place.”
